Tour Stop: Guest Post/Giveaway Gabrielle Bisset

My writing process is shaped by my personality along with years of teaching students how to write and editing in the academic world. I tend to be a very linear thinker, so for me the writing process always starts with a very complete outline and then moves through the story from beginning to end. For Blood Avenged, I already had the character of Vasilije because he'd appeared in a novella I'd written entitled Vampire Dreams. So the idea of my hero was set, but he'd been a very selfish character in that story, so I had the job to show the other, more appealing side of Vasilije in his book.

I knew Blood Avenged was to be the first book in the Sons of Navarus series about a civil war in the vampire world, but I didn't want to just jump into that power struggle in the first book. So I decided it would be Vasilije and Sasa's story for the most part, with some of the war that would come later to give the reader a sense of what was in the series' future.

When I began to think about the heroine I wanted for Blood Avenged, I knew I needed a woman who was grounded. Vasilije is so hedonistic that I wanted a woman who could show him a world beyond the sensual one he has spent centuries enjoying. Sasa, a woman who has spent years taking care of her mother after her father left them, is perfect for him. She's kind and sensitive, but she's nobody's fool even if she is a little more trusting than everyone else she knows.

The biggest challenge for me in writing Blood Avenged was holding back all the details I'd decided on for the series. There are eight Sons of Navarus, so many of the choices I made as I plotted out the series have to be reserved for much later. But the temptation to divulge them was definitely strong! I just had to keep reminding myself to stay with my outline for all the books.

The next book, Blood Betrayed, is complete and ready for its May 24 release. That second book in the series is about Saint, another Son, but there couldn't be a man more different than Vasilije. Saint is an outcast in the vampire world, haunted by a past he can't forget. And he's no fan of Vasilije, who was his brother Teagan's sire. The heroine of the story, Solenne, is a wonderfully strong woman who gives Saint a run for his money. And the readers will get to find out more about the Archons, the villains of the story.

After that, the third book, Blood Spirit, is scheduled for a fall 2012 release. I plan to release two books (hopefully) in the series each year, so readers will have a few years of Sons books to look forward to. After that, who knows? Demons, dragons, angels? I go where my imagination takes me.

Thanks to Samantha for having me here at ParaNormal Romance Party on Blood Avenged's book tour. It's been great!

Blurb:
I am everything you desire. I am vampire.

Powerful and manipulative, Vasilije does as he pleases. A vampire beholden to no one, he takes what he desires, drinking deeply the pleasures this life has to offer.

When one of his own is staked, Vasilije must travel to New Orleans to exact his revenge. There he meets Sasa, a beautiful woman who arouses him like no other has for centuries. Vasilije’s need for vengeance is equaled only by his passion for her, but what he finds in his revenge is just the beginning...

Excerpt
Vasilije looked around the room he’d just appeared in, his body alert to any danger. He’d followed the sense he’d gotten before Teagan’s spirit had been extinguished and knew he was in his home in New Orleans. Everything about the place was Teagan—from the Turkish cigarettes he smoked, to the bottle of Guinness that sat on the coffee table, to the musky scent that identified him as one of Vasilije’s vampires.

And the beautiful woman staring at him.

Who did this?” Vasilije demanded.

Big brown eyes stared back at him. “I don’t know. It happened so fast. I left to grab another six pack and when I got back, someone had a stake...”

Vasilije stood watching the stranger as she cried, needing more information but forced to wait until there was a break in her tears.

Who are you?”

The woman dried her eyes and sniffled. “Sasa. I was his girlfriend.”

At the use of the past tense, she began tearing up again, but Vasilije didn’t have time for it. Whoever had staked Teagan couldn’t have gone too far and any more time wasted with Sasa’s crying may mean he’d lose the fucker.

He moved to leave and her hand caught his arm.

Please don’t go.”

She looked up at him with such a sad expression for a moment he didn’t want to go. But he couldn’t let Teagan’s murderer escape. Vasilije touched his hand to hers to remove it from his arm, but all this did was make her squeeze tighter.

Please,” she begged in a voice that matched the pathetic look in her eyes. “Don’t leave me alone now.”

The urge to tear his arm from her hold and leave her to her misery spiked in him, but it was overruled by that small part of him that understood her sadness.

  3. I think this story sounds fabulous. I am really glad it is a series. I hate to put a book down, if it is really good. It isn't so bad when you can pick up another book, and continue the story.

    1. Thanks for stopping in, books4me! I like writing women who are emotionally strong, even if they aren't kick ass type heroines. LOL Solenne is one of the strongest females I've written, but she had to be to deal with Saint. He's a handful! :)

  11. I can't wait for Saint's book to come out next month, since I loved Vasilije's story so much. And I would love to read something you write about demons, or angels, or maybe my other favorite, werewolves. I haven't read any books about that before. And I haven't read a werewolf romance in a really long time. I loved all your books and I'm sure any of your new book ideas would be g reat. See you on the next stop on the tour.

    1. Thanks, Nicole! I have a few ideas about demons that are brewing in my head, but first I have to tell all these Sons' stories. There are 8, so they'll be taking up a bit of my time for a little while. :)

  12. I can't decided if coming into a series at the beginning is a good thing or not. I hate waiting for the next book to come out. I'm glad you're planning on 2 books a year! I'm going to get Vampire Dreams so I can find out a bit of Vasilije before reading his book. Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. Vampires is not at all like in the movies or books. Sure, I understand. You are young; you have the whole world open to you. You can be anything that you choose if you apply yourself and try hard to work toward that goal. But being a vampire is not what it seems like. It’s a life full of good, and amazing things. We are as human as you are.. It’s not what you are that counts, but how you choose to be. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others? To be charming and desirable? To have wealth, health, and longevity? contact the vampires creed today via email:vampiretemple1@gmail.com
